A group of my peers and I as well as our instructor went out to promote our sale for Thursday April 20 2017. We went around to local businesses to promote the event. We went to a tattoo parlor, a gallery and a furniture shop. We told the owners of the shops about what we do as well as the sale. One of the people we interacted with was a woman who works with nonprofits to raise money for them.I stepped out of my comfort zone when passing out flyers to businesses. It was weird for me because I have never done anything like that before. It was cool to interact with the different managers to promote our sale but it was different and unique experience for me.
The Holiday Sale at Seeds For Autism was a open house event to showcase the work we do here. The participants were here helping out and showing their families and customers the products we make. The participants helped sell items as well.
My first Holiday sale was a cool experience. It was fun to see the work we did showed off in a open house event and to sell the products my peers and I have produced.
I have only been at SEEDs a few weeks and this was my first sale but I had a lot of fun overall. About 10:00 a.m I started out making and demonstrating the gingerbread ornaments. This was my first time making these ornaments but it was easy as soon as I got the steps down and I was able to demonstrate it pretty well.
After I had completed the gingerbread station at 11:00 a.m, I walked around for about 10 min. At about 11:10, I went to work in the jewelry department. I helped out the customers there when they had questions on the products as well as repricing things that did not have a price. I worked there from 11:10 till 11:30 then we broke for lunch.
In between things, my parents came in and looked around for about 20 min. About a hour later, my grandmother and my cousin came in and I helped them by showing them around. I introduced my Grandma and my cousin to Amy and to Jonathan. Then at 3:00 I helped Nathaniel clean up the cucumbers and the acorn cookies tables while waiting for my Mom to come pick me up.
My experience at my first Seeds open House was really fun. I got to learn about how a sale works and how to interact with customers and peers in a store type of setting. I would like to do something similar soon.
Hi my name is Megan and the wood department is what I want to talk about today. The wood department is my favorite because I’ve worked in there the most and Ed is a really good instructor. There are two instructors in the wood department. One works from Monday to Thursday and the other one only comes in on Wednesday. Ed is the one who works at SEEDs all week and Al goes on Wednesday. Ed is the instructor who taught me how to use the lathe in wood turning. One of the previous instructors, Brian, taught me how to use the bandsaw. I hurt myself once by not paying enough attention to what I was doing and accidentally cut myself. After the accident though I was able to restrain myself from getting cut any more on the bandsaw and work towards being better in the wood department.
I first started working at Seeds in 2014 and when I did, Mary Ann thought I should work in the wood department. At first I was a little bit worried and scared, but after a while I got used to it. Working with Ed has helped me tremendously and I was able to further understand how to work in the wood department. The things I’ve made in the wood department include: salt and pepper shakers, acorn boxes, handles for pizza cutters, garden forks and wine bottle stoppers just to name a few.
The skills I’ve learned so far in the wood department range from job skills to conversation skills. I also learned how to cope with situations that you don’t always agree with. Even when you’re faced with something you’ve never done before, you learn how to deal with it as time goes on and it gets easier and easier to do. I was patient with myself so that I could adapt easier to what I was doing in the wood department. And I was also able to be persistent with what I was doing right when I was in the wood department so that I could better adapt to working in there.
The wood department has taught me many things including being persistent, learning to be able to cope with different situations, job skills like focusing on the task, following instructions, attention to detail, and most importantly listening to the instructor. One of the reasons I love working in the wood department is that the instructor Ed has helped me overcome a lot of difficulties to be able to work in that department. Another reason is that he has taught me how to cope with situations and work on the lathe which was a new experience for me.
This is the story of how we got the greatest job on earth. It was December 8 and Mary Ann wanted us to meet her husband. We heard he only works one day a year so Mary Ann has to work more. We were surprised he was Santa, which makes Mary Ann Mrs. Claus. He explained that the elfs are great workers but they are only good at making toys so he doesn’t have anything to give to all the good adults in the world. But Santa has an idea, for as long as he could remember he loved the fine quality products we make at Seeds. Mary ann even gave him a birdhouse on their first date. Santa wanted us to work for him. We make a lot of products and on Christmas eve he wants us to deliver them around the world with him. So now every year when Santa brings Christmas we bring Seedsmas.
