What Unique Quality Do You Have That Makes You Feel Special?

Feeling good about ourselves and embracing the unique qualities that make us individuals is important for happiness in life. At SEEDs for Autism we understand that healthy self esteem enables us to stand up for ourselves, stretch our limits and gain the confidence to connect with others. We asked our participants to share the personal skills, talents and interests they have that make them feel special.

MICHAEL IS.
I think independence is the unique quality that makes me special. For example, I ride the Valley Metro bus without assistance, and I walk about half a mile to and from the nearest bus stop.

CONNOR
I never give up. I’m relentless.

CHRIS M.
My unique quality that’s very special to me and everyone I know would be that I have a talent for drawing and making pieces of art.

JAKE M.
My sense of humor is a unique quality that I have and it feels good when I can spread that humor to other individuals.

DANIEL CH
I’m good at singing. It makes me feel special.

ANTHONY
I feel like I’m good at cleaning things, organizing and mopping. And I like to help show my family the healthy things they should eat.

RYAN D.
I have good skills of drawing, acting, singing, and dancing.

JESSE
I have a really wild imagination when it comes to writing stories.

Zack Greinke: Depression and Social Anxiety

By Jake M.

Zack Greinke is my favorite member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s pitched 14 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) and three with Arizona (2016-present). His career accomplishments include being a five-time all-star, 2013 silver slugger, 2009 CY Young Award winner, four-time Gold Glove winner, two-time MLB leader in ERA, and 44th on the all-time career strikeouts list (2,435). He’s a workhorse and considers himself a student of the game. He’s also been diagnosed with Depression and Social Anxiety Disorder.

Zack Greinke’s struggle with depression caused him to miss portions of the 2005 and 2006 seasons and at one point during that stretch considered quitting baseball. He was also defined as socially awkward by fellow team members of the Kansas City Royals, whom he played for from 2004-2010. As recently as March 2018 Zack Greinke had to answer reporters questions about his low velocity numbers. He expressed in an interview that “I always get nervous prior to the start of every season and that it’s just something I have to deal with and my biggest concern is that I won’t be ready for the start of the season.” – USA Today March 8, 2018.

Zack Greinke’s ability to persevere through tough times and continue on to have a decent career should serve as inspiration to other people who struggle with various forms of Bipolar, Depression or Anxiety.

Goosebumps(2015)(Review)

(Movie Poster)

Hello, my name is Charles and I’m here to review  the 2015 movie Goosebumps. The story setting for this movie takes place in Madison, Delaware. The protagonists in this movie are Dylan Minnette as Zach Cooper, Ryan Lee as Champ, Odeya Rush as Hannah Fairchild (Goosebumps book: The Ghost Next Door) and Jack Black as R.L. Stine (the creator/author of the Goosebumps franchise).

In this movie, Zach and Champ accidentally unleash all of R.L. Stine’s creations from their respective manuscripts and must now work together with both Hannah and R.L. Stine in order to stop R.L. Stine’s fictional creations before they both destroy the town of Madison and unleash their vengeful wrath upon R.L. Stine.

The antagonists in this movie are completely comprised of R.L. Stine’s literary creations. Some of the antagonists are the Zombies (Goosebumps book: Welcome to Dead House), the Mummy (Goosebumps book: The Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb), Slappy the Living Dummy (Goosebumps book: Night of the Living Dummy), The Werewolf (classic Goosebumps book: The Werewolf of Fever Swamp), the Killer Bees (Goosebumps book: Why I’m Afraid of Bees), The Royal Executioner (Goosebumps book: A Night in Terror Tower), The Evil Lawn Gnomes (Goosebumps book: Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes), The Abominable Snowman (Goosebumps book: The Abominable Snowman Of Pasadena), The Blob (Goosebumps book: The Blob That Ate Everyone), The Invisible Boy (Goosebumps book: My Best Friend is Invisible), A Vampire Poodle (Goosebumps book: Please Don’t Feed the Vampire) and a Giant Praying Mantis (Goosebumps book: A Shocker on Shock Street).

In conclusion, I found this movie to be very informative in teaching us how powerful, influencing and dangerous our imagination can be if it is abused and/or misused.

My Experience Taking Dial-A-Ride

Developing Life Skills is exceedingly important for young adults on the autism spectrum. Whether it’s preparing our own food, practicing good hygiene or advocating for ourselves – all these practices contribute greatly to our quality of life and sense of independence. At SEEDs for Autism we empower our participants to step outside of their comfort zones and become more self-reliant. Many of our participants have started using public transportation to get to and from SEEDs and inspirational stories like Daniel’s encourage others to take this important step toward independence.

Hello my name is Daniel N. and I’m going to be writing about my experience taking Dial-A-Ride. Dial-A-Ride has provided me with a sense of independence. The first time I took Dial-A-Ride I had moderate anxiety because I did not know what to expect from them. They have a half hour window until they have to arrive. When they arrive I present my DAR card to the driver and he / she drops me off at Seeds. They are required to sign me in for safety reasons because when I sign in my boss knows I arrived at my destination safely. The bus is usually a van but sometimes they get overloaded with requests. If they are overloaded they will send a taxi as a backup for the main bus, that way I can still get to my destination on time. I would recommend Dial- A-Ride to anybody who needs it.

My Color Poem By Sydney

Blue is an ocean wave crashing onto the beach. Brown is a puppy wagging its tail. Red is a rose in bloom. Orange is a pumpkin shining bright. Violet is a mermaid’s tail splashing in the water. Green is a cactus in season. Pink is a scarf blowing in the breeze. Yellow is a doubloon sparkling in the street. Tan is someone wearing a pair of shorts walking down the lane. Purple is a banner in the sky. Silver is a cupful of quarters. Gold is a sunrise seen through a telescope. Black and White are a Oreo cookie being dunked into a glass of milk. Grey is a Humpback Whale diving down into the deep blue sea. A rainbow is a multitude of colors that you can see in the sky.
