Dunkirk is an upcoming war film, written and co-produced by director Christopher Nolan. Set during World War II, it focuses on the true story of the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation. Nolan wrote the story with the intention of telling it from 3 perspectives, land, sea, and air. The producers made efforts to create suspense through the details, as the script contains little dialogue. Dunkirk is set for a July 21st 2017 release.
The main premise of this film focuses on Operation Dynamo and the efforts to evacuate the Allied soldiers from Britain, Belgium, Canada and France that were surrounded by the German Army on the beaches of Dunkirk in the early stages of WWII.
The film will star: Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Harry Styles, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, James D’Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance.
In my observation this movie appears to draw certain parallels to an older film called The Battle Of Britain. Not only in the fact that the events of the Dunkirk evacuation almost immediately precede the Battle Of Britain, but also that the two films seem to share a similar vibe as well. Perhaps Director Christopher Nolan drew inspiration from The Battle Of Britain, and used it as a point of reference for Dunkirk.
